Nice note from the McCarthy Family, Maury says hi and thanks!
I'm not sure if your "Contact Us" is the most appropriate medium; but if you
would be so kind to assist, I'd like to send a thank you to Mr. Wills.
At the 2008 play-off games, we were lucky and received some tickets and most
fortunate enough to see Mr. Wills sitting very near us at Dodger Stadium. My
husband encouraged me to request his autograph. As luck would have it, we had
the two Dodger towels! What a gentleman, as he graciously signed these for me;
and these were the last things he autographed while in the stands that day. I
thought, I have two boys who are going to be ecstatic and shared that with him.
I took the Dodger towels and the game tickets, framed them, and gave them two my
two sons at Christmas. It was priceless to see their faces when they opened
this equally priceless gift. They both first wondered if this was for real.
Being able to share the story of how they were now the proud owners of this
wonderful gift is a story they will remember forever. Those two frames were on
the wall in hours!
My "boys" (well, they are really men now, 33 and 24) never saw Mr. Wills play in
an actual game. But they know him, as they know every Dodger, all of the stats
and contributions, as if they had watched him play every game. It never ceases
to amaze me how many factoids "boys" can cram into their heads about every
player on every team in every leage in every sport! But a few are stand-out,
cherished players. Mr. Wills is one they love and even I had no idea how much.
What a lucky, lucky day. What a wonderful, generous man. Your fans love you,
and I thank you so very, very much for your kind spirit and love of the game
and your fans.
We wish you a happy and blessed 2009.
Most sincerely,
The McCarthy Family, So Cal
